Hidden Assets: SharePoint CAL's
We have been working with Microsoft on a campaign for companies that already own SharePoint Client Access Licenses (CAL's) but are not making use of them. Many companies already own the Client Access License for SharePoint as part of a package deal (for example, they purchased the Enterprise CAL package). Most of these companies already have IIS and SQL Server installed as well. They are just a SharePoint server license (inexpensive, in general) and a little services help (also inexpensive, in general) away from enabling SharePoint for their whole enterprise, and being able to utilize its capabilities. Some of the high-level uses we've seen clients get with relatively small investments:
• Substantially reducing the cost of HR transactions by providing employee self service portals
• Increasing the rate of new product development via collaborative technologies
• Meeting regulatory compliance requirements without breaking the bank
• Accelerating growth by providing up to date insight into key business performance indicators (KPI’s) across the organization
• Accelerating the delivery of LOB applications
• Managing and controlling documents and web content in a single system that is integrated with tools that end users are familiar with today
• Helping users create and maintain their own portals and intranets, while maintaining IT oversight and control
If you are part of a fairly sizable organization (several hundred to several thousand desktops deployed within your company), you may already own the SharePoint CAL's you need. Feel free to contact us if you'd like to talk more about how we can help you wring the value out of this hidden asset!
